Benjamin Franklin Brown was born on July 16, 1958 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Maxwell David Brown and Frances Brown, at Evanston Community Hospital. Benjamin transitioned on Friday, August 23, 2019. Benjamin grew up alongside his siblings, Geraldine Poyser, Diane Brown (deceased), Jacqueline Fuller (Fred), Maxine Francellno (Ricardo), Michael Brown (Kathy), and Angela Hammond (Daryl). Ben attended Evanston Township High School.Benjamin, also known as Ben or Benji, was a quiet, gentle giant who most times kept to himself. He was liked by everyone he befriended and he had no enemies. His conversations were always positive and insightful.
He worked as a landscaper with Southall Landscaping for several years, moving on to other landscaping businesses as time went on. Benji was handy and enjoyed fixing bikes, lawnmowers, and making repairs around the house. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. At a young age, he would often rise early to go hunting; his younger brother, Mike, was always eager to go alongside with him. He was infatuated with music, and loved early rap and hip hop artists. He took pride in the accomplishments of his nieces and nephews. Benji valued family and was very supportive and especially enjoyed attending family gatherings. He loved the Hatfield’s, and was honored to call them his second family. Benji had nothing but pure love for both the Brown and the Hatfield families.
Ben was preceded in death, by his father Maxwell Brown, and his sister Diane Brown. His close friend, Donna Hatfield, recently passed away. He is survived by his beloved son, Dominique Hatfield, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family members and friends whose lives he touched in so many special ways.
Ben will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
