Mr. James Wharton Obituary

Mr. James R. Wharton, 79, of North Chicago, Illinois passed away Friday, November 30, 2018.

He was born in Anderson, South Carolina, July 31, 1939 to Ellis and Essie (Hall) Wharton; the second of thirteen children.  His parents, wives Joan and Ellie, and son David preceded him in death.  James moved to Evanston at a very young age, and completed his elementary and secondary education in the Evanston school system.  For 45 years, James worked as a Butcher at Jewel Foods, and thoroughly enjoyed his role there. Due to his excellent meat carving skills, he was often tasked with carving the turkey at many family functions.  Upon his retirement, which was definitely deserved, he found a new interest in the news, specifically that of MSNBC where he considered himself a Professional Political Pundit.

James joined Ebenezer AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Jacob Blake, and became a member of the Usher Board; his service and church was always at the center of his heart.  He took his role of Usher very seriously and was at his post every Sunday he was able, joyfully greeting everyone as they came to worship. Later James began participating in the North Shore Zone serving as a Board Member and later President of the State of Illinois Unit Usher League.  One of his proudest accomplishments was recently passing the exam for the State of Illinois and receiving his certificate to be an Usher Instructor.

James leaves to cherish his memory wife: Carolyn, daughters: Tammi, Veronica (BJ) Jones, and Angel; step-son William; siblings Calvin (Mildred), Ann, Fred (Gail), Eugene (Sharon), Elizabeth, Michael, Carolyn, Nancy, Sharon and Marilyn.  One grandson Daniel; sister in law Betsy Jenkins, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is also survived by his special son and daughter Rev. and Mrs. Eddie Smith, treasured nephew and niece Kelvin and Carla Dudley; and his cherished chefs Fred Palmer and Kimberly R. Jenkins.

James, Mr. Usher

No more pain, no more pills.  I know you are at peace and that means more to me than anything.  You taught me so much and even when I did not want to hear some of it, but I did remember Yes, it hurts I have peace in knowing that you are well now. Yes, I will miss our conversations but as you would always tell me “Carol, it is what it is”.  Rest well Love you Carol

Dad ,

you waited until I was 1,500 miles away from home to go to the golden gates. Your last words to me was “I love you” you’ve been my hero for 25 years, and I know I’ll be lost for 25 more years with out you , but you raised me to be a image of you so I know I’ll be okay , I hate heaven couldn’t wait for you for just a little longer, but I know your finally free from pain and sickness with god. Nothing will ever be the same, EVER. & my heart will forever be broken. Thank you so much for blessing me with your presents , your humor , your genuine love , your lessons , and your drive. I will miss you dad FOREVER.
