Mrs. Barbara Carter Obituary

Barbara Jean Carter, affectionally known as "Moonie", was born on January 11, 1947 in Evanston, Illinois to Idell and Clifton Williams. She preceded in death by her mother and father. She was educated through the Evanston school system and graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1965.

Moonie was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church by the late Rev. E. C. Williams and remained a member of Friendship. She married Hilton Pickett and to this union the twin girls, Sheri and Teri were born. A few years later she had another daughter Tina. Some years later she married George Carter.

Upon graduatinf from cosmetology school, Moonie worked as a hairstylist in her cousin Bernice Ranson's (Polly) hair salon, then later opened her own beauty salon. She later worked in Chicago for a well-known salon. She was a teacher and an examiner for the State of Illinois Beauty Culture Licensing Program. Moonie had numerous fashion and hairstyling shows throughout the Evanston community. During those years she was fondly known as "Lady Barbara". Many of her customers were her relatives and people in the community. Some years later she styled hair for Haliburton Funeral Chapel and The House of Thompson. Moonie loved to cook and a great cook she was. She was well-known throughout the community selling dinners, and her best customers were employees from the Evanston Post Office and the neighborhood barbershops.

Over the last few years, Moonie's health began to decline, and in the early morning of August 8, 2019 she was called home at Evanston Hospital.

Moonie loced life and lived it to its fullest. Continuing the memory of her life are three daughters, Sheri Curry, Teri Pickett and Cliftina Williams, two sisters, Jo-Ann Cromer and Teri Murray-Denzin (Scott), seven grandchidren, Kevin Woodson, Keith Woodson (Juleya), James Curry Jr. (Jessica), Marguitta Dixon, Tafari Dixon, Kennith Wallace Jr. and Alina Smith, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
