Mrs. Dorothy Wilson Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy L. Wilson was born in Cusseta, Georgia on November 26, 1927 to the late Hassie ( Mack) Boynton and Robert Boynton. Dorothy was the fourth of eight children to this union and was preceded in death by five of her siblings; Ina Bell Williams, Samuel Boynton, Ruth Gardner, Bernard Boynton, and Alfra M. Love. She leaves to morn her passing Robert E. Boynton of Evanston, IL and Bernice Smith of Huntsville, Alabama. 

Dorothy received her education in the Georgia Public School System. She married Felton Dowell (deceased) and moved to Youngstown, Ohio. She later relocated to Evanston, Illinois to find work in 1955. In 1966 she married Monroe Wilson (deceased)  In 1966 and they adopted a daughter, Vivian M. Wilson (deceased) in 1975. In 1982 she took in her great-nephew, Jason Greer and raised him.

Dorothy did day's work for a number of families on the North Shore. She also worked for APECO in Evanston. IL and went to worth for Wyeth Laboratories in Skokie, IL. She was one of the first African-American females custodial staff at  Wyeth. Dorothy retired from her position there in 1983 when the company closed its operation in Skokie, IL.

Dorothy accepted Christ in her life and was baptized in 1970. Throughout her life she was known to be a strong and hardworking woman. In her youth she rode the mules and plowed field as well as her three brothers. She also had a strong sense of family and was known for bringing her peach cobbler to all family functions.

Dorothy's health began to decline in 2014 and  when she was no longer able to care for herself she moved to Aperion Care Nursing Home in Evanston, IL. She succumbed to her illness on December 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her two siblings, Robert and Bernice. She will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
