Mrs. Edith Foster Obituary

Edith Peal Barber was born on November 25, 1946 in Evanston, IL to Malcolm and Maggie Barber. Edith attended Foster Elementary School and Skiles Junior High School before going on to graduate from Evanston Township High School.

Edith, known affectionately as Edie, was best known for her humor, her honesty, and her kind and giving nature. She was a true nurturer and took great pains to care for those she loved. Edie worked for Tops and General Finance until she found her true calling caring for young children. Edith loved children and they loved her. Over the years, Edie touched countless lives as a childcare provider. Families trusted and loved her and came to regard hr as family. She often cared for multiple generations within families.

Anybody who knew her, knew she loved to laugh and had an easy and infectious smile. It was the combination of her smile, her good looks, and her warm spirit that attracted the love of her life, Herbert Foster. The two were married March 7, 1969 and their union was blessed with one son, Steven Foster. Edie was a doting mother, aunt and grandmother whose love was palpable and pure. If she loved you, you knew it and were better for it.

Edie loved the Lord and spent times as a chior member at Mt. Carmel. Edie made her transition to be with the Lord on Friday, February 15, 2019, where her loving husband, Herbert, parent Malcolm and Maggie, broethers Malcolm, Alphonso, Clemmie, Harry, Joseph, and Louis Barber, and sister Annie Alexander were waiting for her arrival.

She leaves to cheris her memory her son Steven; her brother, Frank (Linda) Barber, and her sister, Loretta Brown; brothers-in-law, Joseph Butler, Ronald (Cheryl) Butler, Steven (Karen) Ross; sister-in-law, Nancy Ross and Eunice Foster; step-daughters Diane and Aretha Foster; granddaughters Laquanya Foster; Dawns (Daryl) Johnson; Amanda (Taj) Lavell; and Janae Bradley; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
