Katie Ruth Davis was born to the late Lanier and Willie Mae Westbrook in Ellendale, TN on June 13, 1933. She accepted Christ at an early age and was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support.
Katie graduated from DuSable High School and continued her education by attending a training school where she received medical aid certification. Her career took her to Evanston Hospital. It was there she met her best friend, Clarence R. Davis who she married in the early 70’s.
Katie’s long search for a church home led her to Bethany Baptist Church of Christ where she joined the Usher Board 14 years ago. She served in various leadership roles as an Usher, including treasurer and president. She was very involved in activities with the State and North Shore Zone Ushers.
As an Usher in the North Shore Zone she was a participant on the drill team for three consecutive years, co-chaired the Senior Citizen Luncheon and served three years as 2nd vice president and president.
She worked diligently and dedicated her life for the Lord as an Usher and a child of God.
During the final year of her life, Katie endured several challenges which she says “tested her faith in God.” She weathered each challenge, her faith in God never wavering. Her favorite bible verse is “Preserve me O God for in thee do I put my trust.” Psalms 16:1.
Katie is survived by her son, Leon (Kimberly), her grandchildren Antoinette (Terrence) and Christopher, her brothers Meltarus, Kenneth (Bernette) and Lanier and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Davis and her mother, famed Gospel singer Willie Mae Westbrook. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
