Born on April 24, 1962 to the late James R. Wharton and the late “Kay” Joan Taylor Wharton, Veronica Wharton Jones grew up in Evanston surrounded by generations of close-knit cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
During their youthful days, Veronica and older sister Thelma “Tammi” were inseparable attending Evanston’s public schools (Dawes/Foster/Haven/ETHS), participating as Youth Choir and Youth Usher Board members at Second Baptist Church, earning badges as Girl Scouts and even daring to perform in grade school talent shows together! Ronnie’s formal education ultimately culminated with degrees in Radio/TV Broadcasting and Licensed Practical Nursing.
With a slightly mischievous twinkle in her eye, Veronica most always wore a gregarious smile across her face along She loved connecting and reconnecting with people from all walks of life. In combination, her professional LPN expertise and passion for people brought immense joy to her life as she loved nurturing and caring for others, especially her family.
On November 18, 2000 Veronica wed her soulmate and proudly became Mrs. Beverly “BJ” William Jones during a private church ceremony. With dedication and unconditional love, raising their very blessed and now teenaged son, Daniel, always made Veronica’s heart smile. Well known as a “Daddy’s Girl, she treasured every moment spent with the most beloved gentlemen she knew...her father, her husband and her son.
Veronica’s parents as well as her late grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome (Thelma) Taylor along with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis (Essie) Wharton, influenced her quest for knowledge, sense of humor, and work ethic. Her Godparents were the late Ed and Arletta Collins and the late Fabian High. Her mother’s close friends Priscilla Giles and Carlis Sutton supported both Veronica and Tammi throughout the years.
