Annie Mae Johnson was one of seven children, born on February 1, 1947, in Marion, Alabama. She was the daughter to beloved parents Arthur Johnson, Sr. & Lucille (Brand) Johnson. She was proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers (Arthur Johnson, Jr. & Eddie Johnson), and two sisters (Bessie Johnson & Bettie Oliver).
Annie Mae accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev F.D. Craig of Providence Baptist Church in Marion, Alabama.
After graduating from Lincoln High School, in Marion, Alabama, she later migrated to Evanston, Illinois in or about 1965. After arriving to Evanston, Illinois, she would later go onto to graduate from college earning her Associates. She worked for the State of Illinois for many years before retiring.
In 1968, she gave birth to a daughter (LaTonya Johnson). And in 1988, her first and only granddaughter (Brandy Johnson) was born, which was her entire world.
She was a civil rights activist who “snuck out of the house” to participate in the iconic American Civil Rights march led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, Alabama. She loved her family more than anything in the world. Her only granddaughter was the love of her life. She loved learning how to play the piano, attending church, sightseeing of architectures, dancing, listening to music, and was a snazzy dresser who loved people.
Annie Mae departed this life on February 9, 2025, at Swedish Covenant Hospital with her family by her side. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, daughter LaTonya Johnson, granddaughter Brandy Johnson, two sisters Mattie Johnson and Barbara Johnson, one sister-in-law Dorothy Davis, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
