Jay Christopher Lane (J.J.) passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025 at his residence in Sacramento, CA. He was born on September 5, 1967 in Evanston, Illinois to Betty and J.C. Lane.
Jay was educated in Evanston public schools and graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1985. He also studied for a semester at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
As a young adult Jay developed the skills to learn the trade of construction and worked alongside his father in the family business of J. Lane Cement Contractors over the years. Also, with his passion for cooking, which he inherited from his grandmother, Jay then found a new profession, became an experienced chef, and managed some of the restaurants at major hotels.
Jay was a fun person who always laughed and joked around. He also had a love for sports and was a big Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
Jay is preceded in death by his father, J.C. Lane, his maternal grandmother Ethel Hamilton, paternal grandparents Charlie and Mae Bell Lane, and a host of uncles and aunts. Jay leaves to cherish his memories: beloved mother Betty Lane, sisters Debby Maddox, Leslie Lane-Palmer (Don), Brenda Lane-Perry (Anderson), brother Larry Edwards (Flora Jean), long term life partner Leesa Young, sons Jay C. Lane Jr., Joshua Lane, nephew Nicholas Foster-Perry (Monique), nieces Demitra, Imenah, Annalise, and Haley, cousins Stephanie Murray and Chris Rucker and other uncles, aunts, great-nephews, cousins and dear friends will miss him dearly.
