Jean Austin George was born on September 7, 1947 in Evanston, IL. She was the second child born to Leroy and Mildred "Pinkie" Vassar Austin.
At an early age she accepted Christ into her life and joined Second Baptist Church of Evanston, IL where she was a member for many years, serving on the Ladies Auxiliary. In 2014, she joined Skokie Valley Baptist Church of Wilmette, IL. Her faith was always an important part of her life, regularly reading her Bible, attending church, praying, and finding scriptures she could share with others.
Jean always expressed a great love for education and learning. A bright and eager child, she flourished through school to become a smart and attentive woman. Graduating from Evanston Township High School in 1965, she went on to further her studies at Tennessee A & I State University in Nashville, TN, majoring in History. She attended classes for further certification at Keypunch Academy in Evansville, IN, Kendall College in Evanston, IL and Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL.
Jean began her career in 1968 after college when she discovered her knack for numbers and working with the public. Most notably, in 1979, she began working as a Secretary in the Respiratory Department of Ascension Saint Francis Hospital of Evanston, IL. Finally joining North Shore Center of Performing Arts in Skokie, IL in 1998. She retired in 2013 after a career spanning 45 years.
Jean was united in Holy Matrimony on June 7, 1969, with William L. George, Jr. They celebrated 47 amazing years together before his passing in 2016.
Her love of knowledge easily transitioned into a role of becoming a family historian. She committed to memory those stories that were passed down over time so they would not be forgotten. Equally so, she stayed connected with family and friends over the years, so she could keep up-to-date with everyone. She understood that in order to know where you're going, you have to know where you've been.
Affectionately known as "Sister" or "Wookie", Jean embraced her relationships and friendships both lifelong and new. She loved her family, good music, entertainment and food. She loved to travel when she could, with a special affection for the Wisconsin Dells. She loved calligraphy, latch hooking, and cooking old family recipes. She was never at a loss for words and always had something to say. She loved to laugh and had the kind of laugh that made you want to laugh too.
