Maude Burke Obituary

Maude E. Burke - affectionately known to many family members as “Blossom”, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Endeavor Health - Evanston Hospital. She was born April 17, 1940 in St. Catherine, Jamaica to the late George Burke and Ichida Eckliston. Ms. Maude graduated from James Hill All-Age School. As a young woman, she migrated to the United States in search of a better life.  She worked as a care-giver and home-helper during her life.

She was an active attendee and member of the Evanston First Seventh-day Adventist Church for nearly forty years and where she served as Sabbath School Secretary. Maude’s legacy and lifelong service will continue to resonate in the lives she touched with her warmth, love and kindness.

Maude enjoyed reading the newspaper and various books. She also spent time throughout her life faithfully reading the Bible, and encouraging her family and friends to put their trust in the Lord Jesus. She particularly loved books of the Bible on prophecy and end-time events. She also loves sewing and cherished her sewing skills and talents.

Her parents, George Burke and Ichida Eckliston; her step-dad, Nicanor Simpson; sister, Pearl Francis and brothers, Glassford Simpson and Osbert Simpson preceded her in death.

Maude leaves to cherish her memory, her four siblings: Peggy Young of Maryland, Frederica Simpson-Brown of Jamaica, Carlton Simpson and Alfred Simpson of Jamaica; six nieces, Georgette Grey-Ford, Denise Morant-Barrington, Diane Morant, Suzette Henry; Cynthia Simpson, Beverly Bernard; Five nephews: Michael Dean, Kimani Grey, Wayne Simpson, Orville Simpson, Delton Morant, and numerous cousins, in-laws, church family and friends.

Maude has been called to rest until Jesus our Lord return. She leaves us with memories that will forever be cherished in our hearts until we meet again.
