Arthur was born in Augusta, GA and moved to Evanston, IL between the ages 6 and 8. He attended Dewey Elementary School, Nichols Middle School, and Evanston Township High School where he played football for the Evanston Wildkits.
He attended college at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL and Philander Smith College in Arkansas where he also played football and was active in the Civil Rights Movement.
Arthur came back to Evanston and worked for the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier where he retired. Arthur was also an accomplished musician who played clarinet, Alto and Soprano Saxophones, Contrabass and he dabbled with the piano. He played with two local groups The Naturals and he led a group called the Common Cause these groups were popular locally and were successful in entertaining Evanston and the Chicagoland area. He was proceeded in death by his dear mother and two sisters. He’s survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, numerous peace and rest.
