Franchot Tone Young, affectionately known as "Jack", was born to his mother Susie Mary (Sheffield) Yound and father William Melvin Young on July 23, 1936 in the house that he grew up in on Asbury in Evanston.
Jack attened Haven Middle School and graduated from Evanston Township High School (ETHS). During high school he worked at Jewel Food Store where he was a bagger part-time. He became a full-time clerk once he graduated and he stayed with the Jewel family for over 45 years working his way up to management and bookkeeper where he was in-charge of paying all the vendors.
It was at ETHS during his senior year that Jack met the love of his life, Myra Adkins. The high school sweethearts were married December 5, 1955. From this union was born five children: Deborah Ann Young, Catherine Marie (Morris) Young, Franchot Tone Young Jr., Pamela Renee (Smith) Young and Tracee Tara Young.
The house that Jack built: A family home was incredibly important to Jack-brick and mortar as well as a good home life. Not long after his son was born, Jack worked with and architect and local contractors to build and design his own home. After this dream was fulfilled, Jack woukd often be seen or heard working on projects for the home in the basement while blasting some of his favorite jazz tunes. Even though Jack was a person that got things done, he was not all-work-and-no-play. His camedic timing and infectious humor soon spread to his kids and there was always laughter, joy and a lot of silliness going on.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife, Myra; four daughters, Deborah, Catherine, Pamela, and Tracee; three brothers, William, RIchard, and Jerome; seven grandchildren, Rashad L. Young, James Morris, Zachary Smith, Christophe Smith, Hunter smith, Dillon Smith, Brooke Jone, and a host of wonderful relatives and great friends.
