Mr. Glen Smith, Sr. Obituary

Glen Lee Smith, Sr. was born in Widener, Arkansas, on June 5, 1938, to Joe Smith and Annie Sanders Smith. The Lord called him home on June 23, 2021, after battling Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by his loving family. He played football for the Tigers and graduated from Lincoln High School, Forrest City, Arkansas in 1959. He attended Philander Smith College until moving to Evanston, Illinois, in 1960.

He married Carrie Smith and had three children, Glen Jr., Kathy (deceased), and Erica. He was an electrician by trade and worked for ComEd for over 30 years. He also worked for himself accepting electrical jobs on the side. Glen had an enormous support group comprising of close family and friends. Glen always had a helpful spirit whether it was helping a family member with a home improvement task, helping a family member or friend financially or just lending an ear. He had an upbeat attitude, loved life, had a huge heart and beautiful smile.

Although he only took one trip out of the country, he enjoyed traveling domestically, mainly road trips. When he was mobile, you could find him enjoying a cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich at McDonald's in Evanston hanging with his buddies. Other activities he enjoyed included gardening, working on cars, carpentry, grilling and any opportunity to get together with friends.

Glen was able to touch so many lives and his memories will carryon. He is survived by his wife Carrie Smith and one brother Troy Smith. His sister, Josie Smith Shelby and a brother, Arby Smith preceded him in death. Sons Glen Smith, Jr. (Kelly) and Daryl Bell, and daughter Erica Schaeffer (Corey Sr); living in-laws, Frederick (Gwen) and Steven (Linda); grandsons Ryan and Corey Jr, one grandson, Adonis, preceded him in death; grand- daughters Alexys and Mia; surviving nephews Eugene, Walter, Larry, Jerry, Fred, Jimmy, Freddie, Michael, Chris, Kevin; surviving nieces Ernie, Mary, Carolyn, Rhonda, Lynn, Michelle; grandnephews and grandnieces; and a host of extended family and loving friends. Please keep the family in your prayers.
