Houston William Strong, Jr., affectionately known as "Junie" was born August 1, 1950 to the late Houston William Strong, Sr. (Sam) and Hazel Strong in Evanston, IL. Houston was the second oldest of seven children.
He was educated in the Evanston School System. Junie married the love of his life, Linda Wamble. To this union three children were born. Linda preceded him in death October 27, 2015.
Houston worked and retired from the Evanston School District 65 as Head Custodian for 39 years. His staff called him "Chief". During his youth and early adult age, Junie was a gifted athlete who excelled in baseball playing for a semi-professional baseball team. He also coached his three younger brothers Little League Teams.
Houston loved his grandchildren, playing cards and enjoyed going to the Kentucky Derby. He was the " neighborhood watchman " and looked out for the children. He would give then change to buy ice cream from the truck when it came into his neighborhood and also shared his homemade pickles with them.
Houston had some health challenges and on Friday, May 10, 2019 surrounded by his family at Evanston Hospital ICU, God called him home.
Junie leaves to mourn his life two sons Houston "Toot" Strong, III,. & Jerome "Roner" Strong (Anika) Des Moines, Iowa. One daughter Toreen Strong, twelve grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren, three sisters; Edwina Wesson, Pamela Strong, & Jill Strong, three brothers; Bruce Strong, Ronald Strong, & Jody Strong (California), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
