Mr. John Lane, Jr. Obituary

John A. Lane, Jr. was born in Evanston, Illinois on June 22, 1960. John is survived by his loving wife, Betsey, and his father, John A. Lane Sr,. He is also survived by his brothers Dennis and Ty (Theresa) Lane; brother-in-law Rob (Leestari New) Lancefield; aunt Mamie Lane Cottrell, uncles Ladell (Glyndean), Jay (Judy), and Oliver (Loretta) Lane; his nieces and nephews Thor, Skye, Trinity, and Austen; and a host of relatives and friends. His mother, Ruby Mae (Winston) Lane, proceded him in death.

John graduated 1978 from Evanston Township High School and attended Western Michigan University. He worked for FedEx Express for more than 25 years, where he was awarded the company's highest  international honor, the Humanitarian Award.

John was happiest when he was giving back to the community. He enjoyed making grants through the charitable foundation on whose board he served, but he especially loved leading the charge to deliver food to the hungry, help to the homeless, and holidays toys to brighten Christmas morning for children in need. He Mentored, listened, guided, counseled, nudged, and always tried to set an example and inspire young people to make the most of their lives.

John maintained lifelong relationships with friends from football, karate, and the Gym. He worked hard to stay strong and healthy, and receiving the diagnosis of such an aggressive disease was the hardest hit he ever took.

Throughout his eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer, John and Betsey drew on the discipline and determination they had learned in karate. Giving up was never an option. They filled every good hour John had with simple joys: grilling, visiting with friends, tinkering on car, or just hanging out on the deck. Even on his worst days, John never uttered a harsh word to anyone, and he remained fiercely independent and shockingly strong until his final breath.

John died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 20, 2019, with Betsy by his side, holding his had and offering her enduring love.
