Chief Khalilu Michael Massaquoi was born in Moyamba Southern Province, Sierra Leone to Marie Ngolama and Brihima Massaquoi. He attended St. Michael's Secondary School before coming to the United States in the late 1960's. After arriving in Chicago in the early 1970's, Michael became a traditional celebrant and
herbalist, opening the Timbuktu Shrine in 1986, which celebrated West African culture and spirituality. Through the Shrine, he educated and initiated many into the traditional West African system of Ifa. He was a long-standing member of the Chicago Sierra Leonean Society.
Michael married Stella Mwakyoma in 1985 (died May 31,2021) and is survived by sons Michael Massaquoi Jr., Elliott Massaquoi and Ngamanga Brihima Massaquoi. Please keep the family in your prayers.
