Obituary

Robert Louis Jones affectionately Jaqown as "Bobby, " "Rob, " "Buzz, and "Bob " was born on July 15, 1959 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Virginia and James Jones Sr. He was the baby offive siblings. Robert was the light in a dark room. Robert was educated through the Evanston public school system.

He attended Dawes Elementary and Chute Middle School, where he built strong lifelong bonds with many. Robert graduatedfrom Evanston Township High School in 1977. While at ETHS, Robert was a phenomenal basketball player. His love for the game was later passed on to his sons. Robert went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan for two years before returning home to Evanston. Robert had an infectious smile and generous heart that caused him to develop long lasting and meaningful relationships with everyone. In 1985, Robert connected with and began dating his high schoolfriend, Katie Legrone, whom he later married. To this union, two sons were born, Layton and Lance. Katie was the love of Robert's life and they shared 38 wonderful years together. Robert was a proud employee wherever he worked. He was employed at Capstone Logistics/Syscofor the last four years and prior to that he was at L & A Stationery in Wilmette for many years. Robert was a Godfearing man. He was baptized at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Taurus Scurlock.

Robert was very family oriented His family was his all and everything, especially his children and grandchildren. Robert made it his business to constantly create memories with his family. He and Katie would travel to the basketball games to cheer on their sons and grandson. They were their biggest fans! Sometimes Robert would travel alone with his sons to motivate and encourage them, pouring into them positivity. Robert was an excellent Pa Pa to his grandchildren. Spending time with his granddaughters was highly important to him. On August 29, 2023, 33 years after his father passed (August 29, 1990), Robert was reunited with his parents, Virginia and James Jones Sr. and three of his older siblings, Marcia Brooks, James Jr., and Charita Jones.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Katie Legrone-Jones; three sons, Robert Muckleroy, Layton Sr. and Lance Jones; Grandchildren, Layton Jr., Layla, and Laniyah Jones, James, Naomi, Madison, and Deshawn Muckleroy; brother, Jesse Jones; niece Sharnell Sayles; nephews, Curtis and Craig Brooks and Jamal Jones, mother in-law Helen Legrone-Reese and a host of family and friends.
