Robert Nathaniel Kenner was born on October 29, 1932, in Evanston, Illinois, the 3rd of 7 children born to Irvin Kenner, Sr., and Lillian Kenner. Elder Kenner departed this life on February 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert Jr. (Robbie); and his brothers Irvin Jr., Cortland, and Lawrence.
Following his graduation from E.T.H.S/Evanston Township High School, he worked for the City of Evanston for over 35 years in the Streets and Sanitation Department. Upon his retirement, he continued to work for the City of Evanston for over IO years as a school crossing guard. He loved children immensely. For many years, Robert was known by many by his middle name, Nathaniel. He met and married Dorothy Dent at First Church. This union lasted 60 years. He was also an avid photographer.
As a child, Robert accepted Christ and was a faithful member of First Church of God (now First Church of God Christian Life Center) in Evanston for over 80 years. After many years as a deacon, he became an elder in the church, an honor he treasured. He was involved in prison ministry for years and loved sharing the Word of God. Not only did he share the Word of God, but he also truly lived the life of Christ. His tenor voice graced the church choir for many years.
The joy that exuded from Elder was a blessing to all. He lived the life of the song, Joy Unspeakable. His joy and love for the Lord blessed so many. The love he brought to everyone in the church was treasured. His kindness and sweetness was immeasurable. He was a mighty man of valor, honor, and integrity; and we were all the better for having known him.
He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life: his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Doris "DeeDee" Kenner; grandson, Steven Kareiva; brothers. Richard "Beans" Kenner, Sr., Donald Kenner; his sister, Idell Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews and family members who celebrate all that was good in his life please keep the family in your prayers.
