Mr. Rudolph Smith

Rudolph (Rudy) Smith was born on June 14,1939 in Barverton, Alabama to the late Floyd and Dearie Smith. He was the eldest of four children, including brothers, Leon Smith in Huntsville, Alabama; Archie Lee Smith in Chester, Pennsylvania; Leroy 'Rex' Smith (deceased); and sister. Ozella Herbert in Guin, Alabama.

Rudy moved to Chicago, IL during his teenage years for employement opportunities and  landed at Swedish Covenant Hospital. There he received his trade certification in Operational Engineering. He spent the latter part of his career as an Operational Engineer at Northwestern Hospital. Following retirement, Rudy worked part-time at Ace Hardware in downtown Evanston as a means of staying active, which was important to him.

Rudy met Blanchie at Swedish Covenant Hospital and were later married August 5, 1963. To this union one son Gregory Smith, was born.

Rudy was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served in Greeter and Trustee roles for the church during this time.

Rudy enjoyed taking walks, listening to smooth jazz, talking time to help other, and traveling with Blanchie to spend time with family.

Rudy leaves to cherish his memory his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Blanchie; son, Gregory (Juari) Smith; his dearly beloved granddaughter, Nandi; his brothers, Leon Smith and Archie Lee Smith; his sister, Ozella Herbert; the Wallace family; his two sister-in-law; his two brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Please keep the family in your prayers.
