Mr. Wilton Bennette Obituary

Wilton Crosby Bennett, Sr., also known as Papeto or Peto, was born to Joseph Bennett and Catherine Clark on April 5, 1949, in Fullersfield, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Wilton attended Paul Island Primary, Mannings High School and From Secondary School. After high school, he taught at Kendall All Age School as a pre-trained teacher before attending Caenwood Junior Teachers' College and Mico Teachers' College, located in Kingston, Jamaica, where he graduated as a certified teacher.

Wilton then taught at Mt. Grace All Age School and From Secondary (his alma mater), teaching Health Science, General Science, and Biology. While in secondary school, he was a member of the Army Cadet Corps. Thus, it was no surprise that returned to From Secondary as a teacher he was in charge of the unit and reached the rank of Lieutenant.

Wilton and Fay were married on his birthday in 1975, and the union produced four children. He and Fay were divorced in 1994; however, they remained close friends until his passing.

Wilton migrated to the United States in February 1988, and he resided in Evanston, Illinois. In the US, his first job was with Allied Security. Later he worked at Northwestern University (Evanston Campus) where he retired as Head Custodian.

Papeto loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, listening to country music and love songs, watching Western movies, writing poems, riding motorcycles, watching Jeopardy, and teaching the sciences. Many of many past students will attest to how he shaped many of their lives and careers because of his love for teaching and concern for their well-being. A little-known fact was that many did not know that Wilton was an excellent singer who sang at many school concerts and to Fay.

He is survived by children Wilton Jr., Reeshemay (Courtney), Shadisha (Jeff), and Eritabeta; grandchildren Eddie, Avery, and Addison; stepbrother Errol, stepsister Raphie, ex-wife Fay; brother-in-law Raymond (Maxine); a host of cousins, nephews, and niece-in-law, close friend Geraldine, other relatives, and many other close friends. Wilton is preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry, and Sarah; parents, Catherine and Joseph; stepfather, Raglan; younger brother, Crompton; stepsister, Margaret; uncle, Charles; and aunts, Vera and Susan. Please keep the family in your prayers.
