Mrs. Ada Tucker Obituary

Ada Mae Tucker traded time with eternity on Monday evening, February 20, 2023 at the age of 78. Ada Mae Tucker, was born on July 6, 1944, in Alexandra City, AL to Lucille and President Dunium. She graduated from Laurel High School in Alexandra City, AL where she was the top majorette.

Ada and her loving husband Joseph A. Tucker were married 60 years this past June 23, 1962. They relocated to Evanston, IL from Alabama in 1962 not long after they were married. She began her work career at Saks Fifth Avenue where she worked for about 10 years, then became a dental assistant with Carol Cheeks dentist office, before becoming the first Black woman to join Main Street Bank for five years. Ada then became a Produce Manager at Dominick's Finer Food, and worked for District 65 for about five years, and concluded her work career at the Levy Senior Center. She was an entrepreneur during her working years and co-owned a resale shop with Alvetta Garner, and she also had a daycare for several years where her "babies" loved to be with her.

Ada's other love/passion, besides her husband Joseph and their sons Joseph, Jr. and Keith, was for her grandchildren; Juleya "baby girl", Joe and Javon, "the twins". She spoke fondly of her grandchildren and would have given them the world if she had the ability to do so!

Ada was an active and dedicated member of Fisher Memorial AME Zion church in Evanston, IL. She served on the Stewart Board and was an extremely dedicated worker for her church. Besides enjoying time with her family and watching a good Western, Ada loved to play cards on Sundays with her card group. The game of choice was Bid Whist and the miracles she performed at the card table will never be beaten! Ada was a blessing in the lives of those she loved and was around.

Ada was also a loving God-mother and friend, in every sense of these words. She was a giving and loving person who stood behind her family and friends; always making everyone around her smile and laugh with her humorous, but honest words.

Ada leaves to cherish her memory, her son Joseph Tucker, Jr. (Lucinda) of-Evanston, IL; Sister Wilma Judon (Jimmie) of Peoria, AZ, Brother Lewis Traylor (Mary) of Des Plaines, IL; a Grand Daughter, Juleya Woodson (Keith); Grand-Sons, Joseph Tucker, Ill and Javon Tucker; a Great Grand Daughter, Jayda and Great Grand-sons Xavier, Kayden, Jasai and Jonah. Ada also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, and an abundance of friends, ALL who loved her! Ada was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Tucker, Sr; parents Lucille and President Dunium; sisters Dora Ransaw and Barbara Jackson, and son Keith B. Tucker. We all thank God for sharing her with us until he saw fit to take her home where she will be in his peaceful arms. We all loved her dearly, but God loved her best. Please keep the family in your prayers.
