Mrs. Annie Avington Obituary

Annie Pearl Johnson Avington was born in Hodges, South Carolina on December 6, 1942.
She was the only child born to Sally Pearl Johnson Williams and Ollie Williams both preceded her in
death.

Annie remained in South Carolina during her early years. She relocated to Evanston, Illinois as a
late teen; graduating from Evanston Township High School in 1960. She attended North Carolina
A&T in Greensboro, N.C. where she found an interest in Computers. Ann returned to Evanston,
Illinois, embarking on a career as a Computer Terminal Operator at Convertors where she was
employed for many years. Ann was no stranger to work! She had a vast amount of experience
working with people in various occupations. She enjoyed clerical jobs, tasks of training others, and
creating new avenues for this up and coming industry. Throughout her career, she enjoyed working
at Northwestern University, Balcor, and several other companies. She retired in 2012 from the
Great Opportunities Adult Day Care (Presbyterian Homes) as an Administrative Assistant.

Annie began her Christian journey as a little girl, attending Pine Grove African Methodist Epicapol
Church. Upon arrival in Evanston, she joined her family at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. Ann loved being
an AME and her church family. She served in many capacities at the church: Sunday School
Superintendent, Steward, Trustee, Gospel and Concord Choirs, Stewardess, Missionary, the Nurses
Guild, and the Delegate for many conferences. She served with compassion, honor, and grace; and
remained active until her health failed.

Annie loved life, her family and friends, and the Lord! She transitioned from this life peacefully,
surrounded by family on October 18, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters,
Tamyra Sutton and Tracy Avington; Grandchildren, Jessika (lessll Bougest (Tre), Jonte (JT),
Trenton, and Brycen Sutton and Maliyah Floyd; Great-Grandchildren, Jeremiah Lemond, Joelle
McHaney, and Ny'mir Sutton; special aunts, Alberta Lee and Betty Johnson; special cousins, Essie
Sullivan (John) and Deborah Johnson; a multitude of extended family and friends whom she loved

and loved her.
