Carolyn A. Wharton, 74 of North Chicago, Illinois passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024. She was born to Calvin and Alice (Brown) Palmer on September 24, 1949 in Evanston, Illinois, the oldest of two girls. Her parents, husbands William and James and son Maurice preceded her in death.
Carolyn completed her elementary and secondary education in the Evanston school system.
She worked as an office manager at Primm Towers in Evanston, Illinois for several years, and later began working as a Housing Coordinator at Northwestern University for over 25 years. While at Northwestern, she also began working as a Payroll Clerk at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center; she later retired from both roles. However, she was not content staying still and continued honing her payroll prowess by working at Freedom Healthcare until the time of her death.
Carolyn joined Ebenezer AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Ulysses S. Robinson, where she fully participated in the life of Ebenezer AME. She was a faithful member of the Steward Board, she also served as the Church Treasurer. She was a member of the Ebenezer Usher Board. She loved to sing, and she served many years with the choir and later served as the Musical Director.
Carolyn passed multiple tests over the years displaying her commitment and dedication to her usher role. She was a member of the Unit Church Ushers League of Illinois; Inc. and she was appointed the president of the Unit Church Ushers League North Shore Zone. Carolyn was also a member of the Primm Towers & Jacob Blake Board of Directors. She was active in the Evanston community when "Evanston Own It" formed their community choir. Carol was appointed as their first choir president.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her son, William (Yvonne) Anthony; her daughter, Angel (Aaron); many grandchildren, including Aubrey' Jae and Toni; her sister, Elizabeth; her uncle, Freddie Palmer; nieces Nicole and Kimberly. She is also survived by her special son and daughter Rev. and Mrs. Eddie Smith, treasured nephew and niece Kelvin and Carla Dudley. She is survived by many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Please keep the family in your prayers.
