Catherine Pettis Frazier was born January 23,1932 in Chicago Illinois to the late Harriett Collier and Eugene Thompson. Catherine was one of her mother's seven children. She had two brothers and four sisters.
Catherine loss her father when she was only two years old. His family loved and adored her so much that she was always moving around to go stay with various relatives. Her favorite Uncle Bob Thompson, (her Dad's brother) would come and pick her up from Chicago and drive her to Kansas where she would stay with her Uncle Farris and Aunt Catherine Woods (her Dad's sister). She was named after her Aunt Catherine; whose nickname was Kate and it quickly became hers too.
Kate loved her time in Kansas and would be there sometimes for months on end. Sometimes she spent the whole summer and other times a whole school year. Her cousins, Jay and Wilna (Sissy) Woods where more like siblings than cousins because they spent most of their crazy childhoods together. They lived on a farm with chickens and Kate was traumatized from the first time she witnessed a chicken still running around with its head cut om She never ate or tasted chicken in her life because of that, but could fry the heaven out of it according to her children!
There were times when she stayed with her Grandmother, Lydia Dowden, in Chicago. Kate later moved to Evanston Illinois, where she lived with cousins Pity and Thelma Price until she turned 18. Kate, 18 and Sis, 20 were still pretty close and shared a room in Evanston while they both worked at a glass factory.
While in Evanston Kate met and married Raymond Pettis in 1952 and had 4 loving Children, Crystal, Renda, Darrin, and Brian. Kate and Raymond later divorced in 1970.
Kate had always felt bad that she never finished high school so she never told anyone. She decided she was going to go back to school at night but didn't want anyone to know in case she couldn't finish. She told everyone she was working a night job until she finally received her diploma. Earning her diploma gave Kate great confidence to continue furthering her education. She never stopped learning!
Kate later earned a degree from Northwestern and went to trade school for computers. While Kate was very good at it, she wasn't very passionate about it. So she went back and got her real estate license. Kate had a dream once that she was on a plane and it crashed because the Pilot got injured and they couldn't find anyone on the plane that could fly it. What did she do? She signed up to take aviation lessons and learned how to fly a plane! There was nothing she couldn't do once she put her mind to it. Once she went to Nursing school and became a LPN, she realized that was her passion-to help others.
Kate later married Clifford Frazier who had a lifelong crush on her since they were in grade school. He didn't think twice about taking his chance at finally making her his one and only and they married Oct. 11, 1987. She lived some of the best years of her life with Cliff. They loved to dress and had a mutual love for Jazz music. For years they would go dancing to live music at their favorite jazz spots every Friday night. Cliff left his Queen and made his transition in March 2018.
On November 24, 2021, Catherine Pettis Frazier got her wings to meet her King once again. Preceding her in heaven are both parents, 2 brothers, 3 of her sisters and all of her aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish her memory are her Children; Crystal, Renda, Darrin, and Brian; her oldest sister Vivian Berry; 1st cousin/sister Wilna Fuller; 5 grandchildren, LeJon, Nicolea, Dezirae Pettis, Darrick Weeks Jr., and Tammy Humphreys. 9 great grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends. Please keep the family in your prayers.
