Mother LaDora Southall, affectionately known as “Mama” made her transition from earth to her heavenly home Sunday, September 10, 2023 surrounded by her family and friends. LaDora could hear God saying, it is time to take your ultimate rest, for you are safe in the arms of the Lord! Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant!
LaDora began her journey through life on August 11, 1937 in Darling, Mississippi. LaDora was the fourth of six children of Thomas and Bessie Wiliams. LaDora completed her education in Leland, Mississippi and later migrated to Chicago, Illinois where she met the love of her life; Tommie “Papa” Southall who proceeded her in death. LaDora and Tommie were joined in Holy Matrimony October 15, 1957. From their union came six blessings from God: Roslyn Sherod (Roy), Tommie Southall Jr., Peppi Southall, LaVora Frierson, Monique Southall, and LaRue Southall.
LaDora held many positions during her work career while also caring for her six children and loving husband. LaDora enjoyed being the head Cook at Faith Christian Academy and later retired from Evanston Day Nursey where she was highly revered. LaDora also enjoyed displaying her cooking skills for her family and church friends during holidays and at various church functions.
LaDora gave her life to Christ in the early 70’s and joined Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, located in Evanston, Illinois, under the leadership of the late Bishop Carlis L. Moody Sr. LaDora enjoyed showcasing her high soprano notes by singing in the Faith Temple Sanctuary choir alongside her husband and many of her fellow soprano’s. LaDora and the soprano crew were often caught laughing and chatting as they enjoyed their rehearsals.
LaDora, Tommie, and their family spent many nights traveling with the choir attending singing engagements. She participated i n two choir competitions with The Voices of Faith Sanctuary Choir when they placed first in the nationwide How Sweet the Sound Choir competition. LaDora enjoyed travelling with her church friends to the various conventions, showing off her sense of fashion, as she enjoyed fellowshipping with the saints and soaking up the word of the Lord.
LaDora gave away many smiles and hugs and she often provided a helping hand to those in need. LaDora also enjoyed t ravelling to see her extended family by way of short visits and f amily reunions alongside her husband Tommie, where they never missed an opportunity to tell of the goodness of God.
LaDora shared a loving and nurturing relationship with her siblings; Major Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana (Julia), who proceeded her in death, Bertha Mae Tyler of South Bend, I ndiana (Robert) who also proceeded her in death, Irenelle Morgan of Harvey, Illinois (Johnnie), Aberry Williams of I ndianapolis, Indiana (Vera), and Mary Williams of Sebastian, Florida.
LaDora’s homegoing is celebrated by her six children Roslyn Sherod (Roy), Tommie Southall Jr., Peppi Southall, LaVora Frierson, Monique Southall, and LaRue Southall; one loving brother Aberry Williams, two sisters, Irenelle Morgan and Mary Williams, one sister-in-law Frances Rice, eight grandchildren; Alisca Southall, Jessica Frierson, Taylor Richmond-Southall, Dontae Southall, LaRenzo Richmond-Southall, Justin Frierson, Charity Southall, and Ryan Sherod; four great grandchildren; Colbi Southall, Knorri Southall, DeLuca Foster, and Zen Southall, and a host of nieces, nephews and church family who are too numerous to name, but who will truly miss her.
