Mary Elizabeth Reeder Cooper was born June 7, 1926 to the late Eleanor Long and Herman Reeder in Henderson County, KY. She departed this life May 10, 2020 at the age of 93 at Mosaic Lakeshore Rehab in Chicago, Illinois.
She attended Eight Street School and Douglas High in Kentucky. She finished her G.E.D. in night school at Evanston Township High School.
Mary professed a belief in Christ at a young age serving God through singing in the choir, Sunday School, and the Usher Board and many activities for God. She attended Jerusalem Baptist Church in Henderson until she left under the leadership of Rev. Adams. She married Charles E. Cooper and to their union one daughter was born. Mary came to Evanston, IL with her daughter, Pamela in 1967. She continued her christian walk and joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.C. Williams until his death. She continued to serve until the new pastor was assigned to the church Pastor Zollie Webb. She served in the choir and was President of the Mother's Board until she became ill and could not, attend. At the age of 60 years old, Mary became a CNA in 1988. She completed her training for persons with Dementia at Mather Pavilion at Wagner in Evanston, IL. She worked as a domestic worker for 40 years for Ira & Emily Bernstein until they preceded in death. She completed her training for Level Two Career Ladder Courses in 2001, and worked on the night shift until she was
unable to work anymore. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Pamela (Melvin); one sister, Wilma Long, Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren, Melvin, Victoria, Corey and Joseph all of Evanston, IL; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; three great-nephews; and one great-niece.
