Nancy C. Massey was born on Monday, December 19th, 1938, to Pearl Pollock and James E. Young in Lexington, Kentucky. She was baptized and joined the spiritual family of Consolidated Baptist Church in Lexington Kentucky, at a very early age. She moved to Evanston, in the late 1940s, where she later met, and married her husband, Jeff Massey who preceded her in death.
Nancy attended Evanston Public Schools and was a graduate of Evanston Township High School. Following graduation, Nancy found employment at Lord's Department Store in downtown Evanston. She would subsequently go on to work for Sara Lee Stores as a switchboard operator, and Chandler's Bookstore, as the elevator operator.
Nancy joined Bethel AME Church in Evanston and became a faithful lifelong member. She loved her church family and was passionately involved for many years in the Choir, the Mar-Beth Missionary Unit and the Fannie Ellison Missionary Society. She held the position as Church Secretary for Bethel AME Church for many years. She also loved working with the Young Peoples' Department (YPD). Nancy would often drive the youth to various events and activities and is "famously" known for getting lost and almost ending up in Canada instead of in Chicago.
Nancy was very well known for her helpful, kind, and sweet personality. Her door was always open, and she was a positive influence across generations. When talking to Nancy, you were the only person in the world to her. She made everyone feel just that special.
Nancy will be remembered for consistently giving a real answer and for building trust through patience and honesty. Nancy would often call you "Sweety" and her signature response, no matter what was going on, was always, "Thank the Lordl!" Please keep the family in your prayers.
