Mrs. Vanessa (Thomas) Sneed

Vanessa Lynn Thomas Sneed was born May 5, 1959 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Hubert LaVonia and Virginia Louise Thomas. Vanessa attended Foster Elementary School in Evanston and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Chicago.

Vanessa accepted Christ at an early age.  On September 25, 1991, Vanessa an only child, gave birth to her only child Ryan Andrew Thomas. She was a loving but firm mother teaching him the importance of trying new and different things.  His friends thought he had the coolest mom!

Vanessa worked as a cashier at Jewel-Osco in Wilmette.  While at Jewel-Osco, Vanessa received many awards for her service to the company and community.  It was while working at Jewel-Osco that Vanessa met the love of her life, George Sneed, also an employee there.  After much flirting George asked her out on their first date which fell on Halloween. They became engaged in 2000 and were married on February 16, 2001. 

After working at Jewel-Osco for 21 years, Vanessa retired in 2008.  She spent her days cooking and baking for her family.  She was an avid gardener, but above all, Vanessa had a passion for baseball.  Like her mother who introduced her to the sport when she  was little, she loved the Chicago Cubs.

Vanessa united with Second Baptist Church on June 19, 2005 where she enjoyed coming to church every Sunday.  A faithful member, she attended regularly until her health started to fail.

Vanessa loved giving and supported several charities like the American Heart Association, cancer support groups, and many others.  She was a firm believer that whatever you gave, no matter how small, it would come back to you ten-fold.

Vanessa was preceded in death by her father Hubert LaVonia Thomas and her mother Virginia Louise Thomas.  She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, George Sneed; son, Ryan Andrew Thomas, and a host of cousins and friends.
