Venita Clementina Warburton was born January 21, 1938, to Myrtle Smith and Lebert Coke in Kilmarnock St Elizabeth. She was the second of 13 siblings combined, including four sisters on her mother's side. Venita went to Kilmarnock All Age School. After graduating she pursued training in the art of dressmaking and demonstrated exceptional proficiency in this craft. Notably, she meticulously crafted dresses entirely by hand free form, without the use of sewing patterns, showcasing her remarkable skill and dedication. She met and married the love of her life, Lebert Warburton, who has preceded her in death.
The union produced five children and one stepson Altiman, Paul, Beverly, Clive (Michelle), Trevor (Simone) and Kenrick (Terrilyn). Venita however was mother to a host of many children who enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She was affectionately called Mamma, Sister Babe, Aunt Babe and moms by the children, grandchildren friends and family.
Venita migrated to the United States in November of 1987 with most of her family. She was employed at The Presbyterian home as a waitress, where she served until retirement in 2003. She was enrolled as a soldier (member) at the Evanston Salvation Army Corps (church) where she served faithfully until retirement. Her soldiership was transferred to The Salvation Army Carr Corps on returning to Jamaica post-retirement. Following her husband's death in 2019, Mamma returned to the USA to live with her family. Mama was a prayer-warrior, a gentle spirit always reaching out to others. She could often be found sending money to help others in need, cooking meals, baby sitting and home making. Her grandchildren remember her flawless clothes-folding and seamless-sewing of their clothing. Venita was promoted to Glory on Wednesday February 21, 2024, in Gurnee Illinois. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother Myrtle, sister Gladys, son Paul, stepson Altiman, and her brother Errol Smith. She is survived by her 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, 11 sisters and a host of friends and extended family. When asked, others describe Mama as graceful, caring, God-fearing, motherly, and meticulous. Mama exemplified the life of the Proverbs 31 woman. Servant of God, well done! Please keep the family in your prayers.
