Mrs. Viola Jones Obituary

Viola Jones was born on November 3, 1923, in McCormick, South Carolina where she was lovingly raised by her parents Doc and Sallie Searles. Viola accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age, and she joined the Hosannah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.C. Middleton.

Viola attended Mims High School in McCormick before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to live. Seeking better employment opportunities and encouraged by her sister Sudie, Viola relocated to Evanston, Illinois in 1948. She worked briefly at Evanston Hospital and then worked for many years as a domestic on the Northshore. She also worked at Washington National Insurance Company until she retired.

Viola became a faithful member of the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church joining under the leadership of Rev. L.M. Geter. She served on various ministries over the years, especially enjoying fund raising, and she was never shy about asking church members for donations.

Viola was also a long-time member of the Interdenominational Missionary Union of Evanston and the Northshore. She remained active until her health declined.

Viola loved nice clothes, beautiful hats, bus trips to visit other churches and going out for dinner with friends on Sundays after church service. After retiring Viola spent time doing what she loved most which was, spending time with her great-grandchildren, watching court TV, and talking on the telephone with friends.

On November 1, 2021, God in his infinite wisdom separated the body and spirit of Viola. She was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda King, sisters Leola Elijah, Sudie Perrin, Ella Ree Smith and brothers Bradley, T.B. and Lonnie Searles.

Viola leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Cynthia Bridges (Clarence), Denise Conley, and one son, Thomas King (Joyce); her grandsons, Bryon Harris, Jonas Conley, Byron Thomas, and Justin Conley, granddaughter Brittany King; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, devoted cousin Freddie Palmer, niece Valerie Perrin, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday November 20, 2021, at 10:00 A.M to be held at Skokie Valley Baptist Church, Wilmette, Illinois.
