Ms. Delilah Davis Obituary

Delilah was born March 5th,1964 in Chicago, IL. She was the oldest Daughter born to John O. Davis and the late Kinzella Priester-Davis. Delilah transitioned to her heavenly place of residence on November 19th, 2021. She was called home at the tender age of 57.

Delilah grew up in Evanston with her three sisters. She attended Evanston Public schools, graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1982 and went on to earn her BS in Elementary Education from National Louis University as well as her Master's Degree in Administration.

Delilah was a devoted mother to Moriah, the light of her life and best friend. Of all the accomplishments in her life, being Moriah's mother and most recently becoming a grandmother to Ma'at was one of the most important aspects of her life. She was a dedicated educator working for Evanston / Skokie School District 65 for over 30 years and was a pillar in Evanston. She started her career as a teacher's assistant in 1991 at Oakton Elem. School working with students with special needs. She went on to work at Kingsley Elem. School teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. She was committed to academic excellence and had high expectations for all students and had a particular passion for working with differently abled students.

She was also a strong advocate for the rights of African Americans. Her highly focused and innovative approach to teaching resulted in tremendous successes even when faced with the most challenging students. Delilah was admired by her colleague's and was often sought out by parents who wanted their children in her classes and was a favorite of students.

Delilah was also friend and mentor to many. Her strength, wisdom and calm spirit drew people to her. It seemed there was nothing she couldn't accomplish if she put her mind to it. She impressed everyone with her creativity and artistry-she had natural talent for drawing, painting and calligraphy. She made beautiful handmade jewelry using precious stones and stones she created. She recently added baking to her many talents. Some of her delicious
desserts were pumpkin cheesecake and a four-layer chocolate cake.

Her creativity and talents also extended to gardening. She created a calming retreat in her backyard. Her garden was her place of peace where she read, meditated and had her daily conversations with the Lord. She also spent time in her garden with her granddaughter, the love of her life Ma'at.

Delilah was a member of Bethel AME Church in Evanston as a child as well as in her adulthood. Her Faith and strong prayer life carried her through the difficult times in her life.

Delilah was proceeded in death by her mother Kinzella Priester and her sister Deanna Marie Davis. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughter, Moriah Horton (Khalif); granddaughter Ma'at Horton; father, John O. Davis (Nancy); sisters, Seana Davis and Alexia Duany; nephews, Dale, Karlton & Elijiah Davis, Christian & CJ Lopes; Brandon and Jason Fearon and Levi; aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins. Please keep the family in your prayers.
