Doreen Gill, lovingly called NaNa or Doonie or Banana Bread or a host of other adoring names, was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She immigrated to the United States in the early sixties and lived in Evanston most of her life.
She is a 30-year veteran of Weiss Memorial Hospital as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician. She often told stories of preparing the instruments that doctors would use to save lives.
Doreen made her family her priority. She would often rescue her four grandsons from any trouble they got into with their parents. "Give them a chance" was her buffer against anything those boys did. Doreen was an avid and prolific reader. From Dickens' A Tale Of Two Cities to White's Catch A Fire: The Life Of Bob Marley, she loved her books. She would often spend hours reading, and then re-reading the same novel. When she was not reading, watching and solving British murder mysteries was a second passion.
Doreen Elvira Gill, lovingly called Banana Bread, was born Doreen McDonald. She is survived by her former husband Donald (Big Danny) Gill; son, Donald (Little Danny) Gill; his wife Linda Gill; and their two sons, grand-children Alex Michael (Fro-Fro) Gill & Jason Lee (JL) Reuben Gill. Doreen's daughter, Debbie Schell; her husband Richard (Rico) Schell; and their two sons, grand-children Nathan Emanuel (Norbert) Schell & Christopher Eason (Topher) Schell. Her Aunt Doreen (Chiquita) Morris; Chiquita's daughter and Doreen's cousin Erika (EC) Johnson; her husband Carl Johnson, and their beautiful daughter Lorryn (Lolo Cricket) Johnson; and a host of additional family and friends who walked with her during her journey. Please keep the family in your prayers.
