Mother Elsa Phillips (aka Miss Elsa, Grandma, Mama and Mother Phillips) was born on October 14, 1928 to Gwendolyn Dacres in the Parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica, W.I., She received formal education at Providence School in Kingston, Jamaica. Mother Phillips had four beautiful children, her eldest, Joyce (who preceded her in death), twin boys, Owen (aka Sonny) and Cecil (aka Mickey or sometimes called Mousey by his Mom), and last but not least, Grace (her wash belly).
Mother Phillips migrated to the United States in 1986, where she gained employment as a Housekeeper and worked up until her retirement. In 1996 Mother Phillips accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, at the Bethel United Ministries in Evanston, IL of which she became a member up until the time of her passing. She was a faithful member of the ministry and would always share her testimony of where God had brought her from. Her testimony would not end until she would sing one or two of her favorite songs, which she would oftentimes merge into one -All the Way My Savior Leads Me and Lord Jesus I Long to Be Perfectly Whole. She had a very charismatic personality. She loved people, but she would tell you the truth whether you liked it or not.
She was a disciplinarian from the "old school", and at the same time she would respond to you by calling you "Sweetie Pie", "Darling", or "Honey Bunch" with a wide smile. She loved to cook and was always bringing home cooked meals for the brethren or buying treats for the children. Mother Phillips was the last of her siblings, but left behind three children, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren. She will be missed by family, friends, loved ones and the entire Bethel family who knew her. Rest in Peace Mama. Please keep the family in your prayers.
