Katherine Eloise Smith, also known as Kathy, was born and raised in Evanston, IL on December 5, 1967 at Evanston Hospital. The Lord called her home on July 14, 2020 after battling breast cancer; surrounded by her loving family. Kathy graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1985. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from UNLV and began studying for her master’s degree from ASU.
While taking college courses, Kathy worked full-time at CDW Corporation for over 20 years at their locations in Vernon Hills, IL and Las Vegas, NV. While she was there, she gained an enormous amount of experience allowing her to advance within the company and ending her career as Manager of Distribution Support WDC/CDW. Once she began long term care, she relocated to Arizona to be around family during her final weeks.
Kathy had an enormous support group comprising of close family, friends, and co-workers. Kathy always had an upbeat attitude, was super funny and loved life, a huge heart and beautiful smile that would melt your heart. Her network of friends extended across the country and never needed a reason to get together. If you’ve ever had an opportunity to see her Facebook photos, you can’t deny that she did her best to enjoy life to its fullest. She loved to travel with family and friends to domestic and international destinations. Other activities she enjoyed included bowling, karaoke, grilling, concerts, sporting events, and any opportunity to get together with friends.
Kathy was able to touch so many lives and her memories will carry on. She is survived by her parents, Glen and Carrie Smith Sr; brother Glen Smith Jr (Kelli); sister Erica Schaeffer (Corey Sr); partner Angela Coleman, stepdaughters Tracy and Velma and stepson Aaron; granddaughter Zhuri; nephews Ryan, Adonis (deceased) and Corey Jr; nieces Alexys and Mia; and extended family including surviving uncles Troy, Frederick (Gwen) and Steven (Linda); cousins Jerry, Rhonda, Fred, Lynn, Jimmy, Freddie, Michael, Chris, Michelle, Kevin; other a host of extended cousins and loving friends.
