It was Thursday, July 19, 1979 at 10:15 p.m. when she arrived. It was Saturday, January 25, 2020 when she left.
The years in between were mostly magnificient, with school, travel, parties, etc. All the important life events. Marissa was a 6ft. 3inch gentle giant. Her favorite person besides her mom was her grandfather. She played and loved basketball, we have many medals of these endeavors. She was always quiet and reserved. At age 19, Marissa began to have minor medical incidents. She would quickly recover and return to life events. Intermittent medical incidents happened, medical test ensued and we would be back to life events. By the
way, no diagnosis.
We went on for several years with out any incidents, until the summer of 2014, when she was found having difficulty breathing. This was a bad incident. After 6 weeks, she recovered (tests, tests, tests) and still no diagnosis. We went back to our lives until another incident on December 3,2019. She was hospitalized and we had great hope after her 3 1/2 week hospital stay. We returned home, she was happy and we even sent out "Welcome Home" videos. This did not last 3 days later, she was back in the ICU. After 5 days there, she was back home but this time it was different, she wasn't her usual self. She had a check-up on Jan. 24th and all was well. On Jan.25th, she told me she didn't feel well and a few hours later she was gone.
Marissa was an only child but had many cousins who were her surrogate brothers and sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Lucia and her father, James; her aunts, Jennifer (Dennis), and Yvonne; her uncles, Gordon (Agnes), Charles Moore, Jr.; Erlin "Maurice" Moore (Monique) and countless cousins and friends.
We would like to acknowledge Ora Cotton and Diantha Nicholson who were instrumental in her care. As well as her aunt Jennifer who always
cooked her favorite food.
