Shirley Ann McGee was born on February 29, 1944, in McComb, Mississippi. Shirley was the oldest, born to Willie Cotten and Josephine Cotten. While living in McComb, Mississippi, Shirley attended and graduated from Burglund High School.
Shirley was a big personality in a small package. She had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny, full of joy, a woman of wisdom who showed us what we can accomplish with determination and persistence. Despite her many challenges, she lived her life to the fullest. Her greatest joys and accomplishments were the love of her family and friends and the gift of being a mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving parents, Willie and Josephine Cotten; one brother, Rochester Cotten; one sister, Minnie Long; and her loving sons, Jawan L. McGee and Derrick McGee.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her three loving children, Denise (Jerry), Devon (Pelumi) of Chicago, Illinois, and Corrie (Mia) of
Mobile, Alabama; five sisters, Tanga Cotten of McComb, Mississippi, Eva Hutchinson, Sallie Cotten, Faye Cotten, and Dora Cotten of Atlanta, Georgia.
Shirley was the matriarch of five generations, which include a host of grandchildren (9), great-grandchildren (18), and great-great grandchildren (5), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
