Stanley J. Sewell, 96, of Palatine, Illinois, passed away on December 31, 2025. Born February 17, 1929, in Chicago, he was the son of Jesse and Rose Sewell.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951–1953) and was honorably discharged. A skilled machinist and maintenance mechanic, he retired from Nabisco and later worked for Arlington Heights High School in District 25.
Known for his kindness, strength, and perseverance, he loved spending time with family, traveling the world, cruising, and cheering on Chicago sports teams. He enjoyed bowling, photography, roller skating, baking, and had a passion for technology, often building or repairing his own gadgets. He was an avid follower of both tennis and golf and had a deep appreciation for jazz music. He lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for his warm smile, wisdom, and serene spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Rose Sewell; brothers Douglas Mitchell and George Sewell; and his cat Simba. He is survived by his children, Gilda (Ruff) Smith and Brian Ruff; grandchildren LaTasha Wakefield-Brown, Terrence Wakefield, and Jessica (Wakefield) Bush; eight great-grandchildren; and his life partner, Virginia Toms.
He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
