Teri JoAnn Pickett, affectionately known as “Wicked Pickett,” was born on January 6, 1967, in Evanston, IL. She was born to Barbara Jean Carter and Hilton Pickett, alongside her twin sister Sheri. She graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1985. Teri was a member of her family church, Friendship Baptist Church, in Evanston, IL.
Teri had two special loves in her life, Sidney Woodson and Delroy Dixon, which resulted in her four beautiful children, Kevin Woodson, Keith Woodson, Marquitta Dixon, and Tafari Dixon. Teri lived and loved life to the fullest. To know her was to love her. Teri had a huge personality. She was adventurous and did everything her way. She had the biggest heart, was extremely loyal and giving, and was loved by many.
She had a smile that would light up any room and had an incredibly infectious laugh. Teri would do anything for those around her in need and was not afraid to speak her mind. Teri had a deep love for music. She enjoyed being outside, having fun, and spending time with friends and family during gatherings. Teri also found comfort in solitude. Teri was a walking testimony. Despite challenging life experiences, she was extraordinarily resilient and had an immense amount of strength. She walked with her head held high and displayed tremendous love and peace, bringing joy to many people’s lives.
Teri would have celebrated 15 years sobriety over Memorial Day weekend, woohoo! This sobriety anniversary was a huge accomplishment for her and was celebrated by her family with a balloon release. Her love and care for people were shown as lots of love and support surrounded her as she transitioned beautifully on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 56.
Teri leaves to cherish in her memory her sons Kevin Woodson(Stacy), Keith Woodson(Juleya), and Tafari Dixon, her only daughter Marquitta Dixon, her grandchildren Siniya Gallimore, Micah Dixon, and Kayden Woodson, her sister Anita Bester, her brother Darvin Williams, her sisters Tonya Stillwell, Sheri Pickett-Curry, Cliftina ”Tina” Williams, and Tamika Chess LaBelle, her god sister Myra Henry, her nephews James Curry Jr., Kenneth Wallace Jr., her only niece Alina Smith, her aunts who she was named after JoAnn Cromer and Teri Murray, her uncles Milton (Phyllis) and Ted Pickett, her aunt Eloise Pickett, her extended siblings Duane, Yolanda, Hafeezah, and Shelyne Carter.
Teri was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Jean Carter, her father Hilton Pickett, her second father George Ibn Carter, her grandparents Idell and Clifton Williams, her grandmother Eliza Pickett, and her extended brother Shawn Carter please keep the family in your prayers.
